Please note: Moving in is possible no earlier than two months before your studies start.
Selection Procedure
All applications are reviewed by the Tietgen Admissions Committee (ISU).
ISU represents the residents of the dormitory and is responsible for admitting responsible, engaged, and social students who will contribute to an attractive living and study environment at Tietgen. The committee consists of six resident representatives and one representative from the administration or board. The six resident representatives are elected democratically by fellow residents once a year.
The most important factor in the evaluation is the applicant’s motivation to live at Tietgen. The goal is to find students who will thrive in the existing community and help make Tietgen a safe and engaging place to live. ISU also considers diversity and aims to ensure a broad mix of residents in each round—regarding gender, field of study, culture, and interests.
Writing a Strong Application
Remember, your application will be read by your peers—potential neighbors and friends. Keep the tone informal and authentic.
We are looking for people who will be good neighbors, who value community, and who understand how important it is at Tietgen.
Tips for a good application:
- Keep it to one page
- Add a few photos to show personality and give us a glimpse of who you are
- Describe yourself through actions, not just words
- No need to write about the architecture or facilities—we already know!
- Be honest
- Focus on what you can contribute, not just what you will gain
Share concrete ideas, activities, or initiatives you would like to bring to the community.
Questions to inspire your writing:
- What do you enjoy in your free time?
- What did you do during your gap year?
- What are you passionate about?
- Why are you studying your chosen subject?
- Share an anecdote or experience that has shaped you.
Important: ISU members are bound by confidentiality and cannot share information about applicants with others. If a member has a personal relationship with an applicant, they are considered ineligible to review that application.
And remember: If you are not accepted, try again! You are welcome to apply more than once, but please don’t submit the same application again.
We look forward to reading your application!
Response Time
You will receive an answer approximately one month after the application deadline.
Accepted – What Happens Next?
If you are accepted, you will be placed on our waiting list. Fortunately, the list is not very long, and we expect to offer you a room within 3–6 months.
Room allocation from the waiting list follows the principle of maximizing diversity across kitchens—ensuring a mix of gender, study programs, and backgrounds.
Moving In
Parking garage: On moving day, you may have your access card activated for the parking garage to make moving easier. Contact the administration or send an email with your name and card number to info@tietgenkollegiet.dk.
No cars on dormitory grounds: Cars are not allowed inside the courtyard or on areas around the dormitory—even during moving in.
More info: Please consult the moving-in guide you received with your rental contract.
How Long Can You Stay?
You may live at Tietgen as long as you are an active student, up to a maximum of five years—or six years if you are enrolled in a six-year study program and moved in at the start of your studies.
Subletting
You must meet and document the same study requirements as regular applicants. Subletting is permitted for one period of up to six months. As a subtenant, you take on the same rights and responsibilities as other residents, including kitchen agreements.
All subletting is managed by Tietgen Administration. The rent is the same as the regular rent for the room. Unauthorized subletting is not permitted and will result in termination of the tenancy.
When your sublease ends, you may apply for housing again like any other applicant.
If you are already a resident and wish to sublet your room while studying abroad, you can find rules and instructions on Heynabo.
